1.Light flow suggests that you may have thyroid or pituitary gland issue

If you are on birth control pills then light flow is usual, but if you are not taking birth control pills or similar non-hormonal IUD and you still have light flow, there is a chance that you have a hormonal imbalance. According to Dr. Adelaide Nardone, from Brown University, light period may indicate problems with the thyroid or pituitary gland. There is also a probability that you suffer from a Mullerian anomaly, which is a disorder causing a malformed hymen, which can impede with the flow of the menstrual blood. Oddly light periods can also be linked to polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and autoimmune disorders.

2. Cervical or uterine polyps can cause sudden bleeding throughout periods

If you have sudden or unrelated bleeding to the normal cycle then you are having a breakthrough bleeding. This is a normal side-effect if you are taking birth control pills, otherwise you should consult your doctor. Breakthrough bleeding can sometimes be a sign of uterine or cervical polyps, which results due to too much estrogen in the body. However, it can also indicate fibroids or other similar infections. Such bleeding from the vagina can also indicate cancer.

3. If you suffer from severe and unbearable cramps which last for a couple of days then you must consult a doctor

If you have intense cramps during your periods, and think it is usual, consider you are making a big mistake. According to Dr. Daniela Carusi, who is director of General Gynecology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, young women often think they need to endure the intense cramps they are experiencing, but that is definitely not the case. It can be harmful if they do not talk about them.

4. If your period is late and there is no chance of pregnancy, you are likely to have hormonal imbalance. Consult a doctor if this is the case

If your period is late, and if there is a possibility that you are pregnant, that is great. However, if the chances of you being pregnant are next to zero, there are a few things you should know. According to Dr. Carusi, you might not have regular ovulations or you could have PCOS, which makes it more difficult for you to know your fertile days. In case you suffer from obesity or have a low percent of body fat, you may have a severe hormonal imbalance and it is time you change your lifestyle. Obese women who have irregular periods need to check to see if they suffer from Type 2 diabetes, since ovaries are directly affected by insulin resistance. If this is the case, contact your doctor as soon as possible.

5. If your discharge has saturated red color similar to “cranberry juice” than you have a normal secretion. However, if the secretion is any other color than this you may have estrogen imbalance.
