A lot of people can’t imagine starting their day off without a cup of coffee. You get out of bed and the first thing you are thinking is, I need some coffee!
But drinking coffee on an empty stomach is not a great idea. As you know caffeine is a stimulant. Caffeine stimulates your adrenal glands to produce some stress hormones that are also known as cortisol and adrenaline. So basically your body gets flooded by these hormones which increases your heart rate, blood pressure and your liver starts with releasing blood sugar to provide your muscles with energy, but your digestive system shuts down as well in order to divert energy to the places that is needed the most. In reality coffee doesn’t really provides you with instant energy, it just makes a chemical stimulation so it won’t be long before you will want another cup of coffee or something to eat.
Coffee is high in antioxidants which is very helpful in fighting off different kinds of diseases including colon cancer, but these antioxidants can cause adverse reactions in our body on an empty stomach. Drinking coffee before breakfast can also cause the level of acid in the stomach to increase and to create problems for heartburn and indigestion throughout the day. Coffees that are cheaper are usually higher in acidity, which over time can lead to sever issues like stomach ulcers, irritable bowel syndrome, heartburn and acid reflux disease. And that’s why sometimes you should choose quality over quantity.
Most doctors recommend not to drink coffee on an empty stomach or the reasons mentioned above. Have a bite to eat before you drink your first cup of coffee of the day. If you don’t got enough time to have breakfast or you are addicted to coffee in the morning start adding a little milk in it or butter for some fat to burn. A thing we could recommend Is to add a little bit of coconut virgin oil, your body will use that fat from the oil for energy and it will improve the taste of your coffee!
