A SOCIAL EXPERIMENT IN NEW YORK CITY REVEALS THE TRENDS OF THE COMMON PUBLIC ABOUT PROVIDING HELP TO STRANGERS BASED ON THEIR APPEARANCE.
When a man with a black suit and crutches constantly falls so the reaction of the people passing by him will come to light. Without having second thoughts, there was at least one person if not several, to help him get back on his feet. They politely call him sir while they ask him if he is alright.
ON THE OTHER HAND, WHEN THE SAME MAN IS DRESSED AS A HOMELESS PERSON, THE REACTION IS TOTALLY DIFFERENT.
Whenever he fell, people around him just looked at him with fear without offering him a hand to stand up again. Some people just gaze and continue walking. While others are upset cause he interupted their way. There is no “Are you ok?”
Only one person offered help and it was another homeless guy who was sitting against the wall. With understandable compassion and concern, the man is ok and that he doesn’t need medical care.
FINALLY, JUST LIKE JOHANN WOLFGANG VON GOETHE SAID, “YOU CAN EASILY JUDGE THE CHARACTER OF A MAN BY HOW HE TREATS THOSE WHO CAN DO NOTHING FOR HIM.”
