A lot of kids wish to become firemen when they grow up. This 3-year-old boy, Trucker Dukes, dreamed of being firemen just like his father. Unfortunately, on only 2 years of his life, he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer affecting his nervous system.
Sadly, Trucker, from Hawaii, is battling cancer. Trucker is from Hawaii but the New York City Fire Department got to make his dream a reality.
He’s been suffering from neuroblastoma for a year and a half. The 3-year-old and his mom went to New York to search for more treatment. Doctors have been working hard to heal this little boy from this terrible disease.
He was staying at the Ronald McDonald House which is a facility where kids and their families live while they are on cancer treatment. Trucker also was living there, recuperating from a very hard day of cancer therapies. Chief Firefighter Jim Grismer arrived and Trucker chose to go introduce himself.
“I see this little boy excitedly walking towards me with his eyes aglow. I opened my arms and he basically climbed up and hugged me around the neck. It was as if we’ve been friends for years.”
This encounter moved the rest of the volunteers, so they all decided to make Trucker a privileged member of their squad!
His condition is now stable, and thanks to the noble act of these firemen, we will have one future firefighting man!
