A mother delivering her baby calf in peace occurs and within seconds, the rest of the herd gather around her and the baby to guard and protect it.
Using their trunks to lift him and sweep dust over his body (which protects his skin from the sun), they trumpet loudly and proudly as to welcome the newborn to their herd.
This was filmed at The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (DWST) located in Chobi National Park, Botswana. DWST is a Kenyan-based nonprofit organization and the most successful elephant orphanage in the world dedicated to the protection and conservation of wildlife and habitats. They rescue and hand-rear orphaned elephants and rhinos who have lost their mothers, which is all too often to the hands of poachers
